North and North West of Iran - 11 Days

In this trip we are going to see beautiful Gilan, Ardabil and East Azerbaijan provinces. during this trip you are going to get to know about Gilaki culture (Gilan province), Azari culture (east and west Azerbaijan and Ardabil provinces) and also Shahsavan nomads in foothills of mount Sabalan. Breathtaking landscapes of north and north west of Iran are countless so apart from the cultures that we are going to visit, we’ll visit green fields of Gilan, amazing terranes of Ardabil and one the most beautiful and highest peaks of Iran, Mount Sabalan(4811m)

What do I need to bring?

Comfortable and light clothing is the most suitable for travelling in Iran. Visitors should not wear sleeveless shirts, shorts, short skirts or skimpy clothing. Shoes should be removed before entering a mosque or private house.

Dress code for ladies:

you are supposed to hide your body shape, so you should wear trousers – either jeans, or if visiting in summer, something loose and cotton is best. Your top should be fairly baggy and fall to about mid-thigh. A summer dress over jeans and t shirt is a good option.

Dress code for men:

Shorts and sleeveless shirts are not allowed, the rest is fine!

Day 1
Day 1 : Tehran(arrival)

After arriving to Imam Khomeini Airport (IKA) our representative will greet you in the airport then you’ll be transferring to your hotel in Tehran. your tour guide will be there in your hotel to greet you, then you’ll have a short meeting with your tour guide so he/she briefing about your trip and further arrangements for the next day.

Day 2
Day 2 : Fuman/Masuleh village

Your tour guide together with your transport will pick you up from your hotel to take you to the city of Fuman as our first destination. Gilan province and especially city of Fuman is the center of rice and tea production, city of Fuman is also very well known for its cookies as well. Farming tea and rice is not only a business for the people of this region but it is deeply involved to their culture too. For better understanding or their culture, we’ll have a visit to some of Fuman tea and rice farms just outside of the city then we’ll have a short visit to Fuman anthrophony museum to give you a short introduction to the culture of people living in Gilan province (Gilaki Culture). Our next stop is Rudkhan Castle, history of this castle goes back to almost 1400 years ago when remains of Sassanid dynasty was fighting back Arabas during the invasion of Persia. After visiting the Rudkhan Castle we’ll head it to amazing Masuleh village. Masuleh village is one of the most beautiful and one of the most famous touristic villages of Iran. We’ll stay for one night in this village in a beautiful boutique hotel in front of the village.

Day 3
Day 3 : Talesh/Khalkhal/Ardabil

After a morning walk in Masuleh village we will head it to Talesh area, Talesh is a beautiful pasture in high mountains with lots of horse fields and amazing landscapes, after having a short walk around Talesh area, we will continue our journey to the city of Khalkhal. on our way to Khalkhal city we are passing through amazing mountainous Asalem-Khalkhal road. Asalem to khalkhal road is a summer camp to lots of nomads so apart from scenery we’ll stop on our way for couple of occasions to experience their delicious local cuisines. We’ll pass khakhal city quickly to get to our final destination for today: Ardabil.

Day 4
Day 4 : Ardebil/Meshghin shahr(shahsavan eco-camp)

Before heading to foothills of Mount Sabalan, we are going to have a full day tour in Ardabil city. We’ll be visiting sheikh safi al-din khānegāh and shrine ensemble which is one the master pieces of the Islamic golden ages (Renaissance in Europe), Ardabil old bazaar and also Pir-e Zargar traditional bath house. Before arriving to Shahsavan eco camp we’ll be visiting Shahreyeri on our way, the area, which spans 400 hectares, consists of a military fortress, a temple and Qousha or Ghousha Tepe. Shahreyeri was first excavated by archeologist Charles Allen Burney and his team in 1978. He believed the site dates back to the third millennium BC and the Early to Middle Bronze Age period. Other archeologists believe the site is at least 9 thousand years old. What is known for certain is that Shahreyeri was inhabited and an important center of civilization before the 1st millennium BC and in the Neolithic period. We’ll be arriving to Shahsavan eco camp in foothills of mount sabalan for the evening. Shahsavan eco camp is very famous for its mineral springs and also summer camp of Shahsavan tribe (an ancient nomad tribe).

Day 5
Day 5 : Shahsavan eco-camp

We’ll spend our day in shahsavan eco camp and beautiful foothills of Mount Sabalan, you’ll experiencing Shahsavan tripe life for one day, how they live and how they make their own food. We are going to have our traditional lunch in their tents and after having our lunch we’ll have a chance to hike around beautiful fields of Mount Sabalan. For the evening you can take a bath in a private natural spring baths close to our camp. Temperature of these natural springs is always 47 degrees Celsius and they are coming from underneath of Mount Sabalan.

Day 6
Day 6 : Meshgin Shahr/Haris/Tabriz

After having our breakfast in Shahsavan Eco-Camp, we will have a short stroll in beautiful foothills of Sabalan to take a last look to this beautiful mountain and its landscapes. we’ll continue our joinery today to visit beautiful city of Tabriz (4 hours’ drive from Shahsavan eco-camp). Before arriving to Tabriz we’ll have short visit to the city Haris on our way, this city is the center of east Azerbaijan style rugs. So we have a chance to visit one of the traditional rug workshops in Haris. For the evening we’ll be arriving to city of Tabriz so after check-in to our hotel we will have a short visit to streets of Tabriz around our hotel to see the night life in Tabriz streets.

Day 7
Day 7 : Tabriz

For today, we are going to see kabood mosque, Tabriz Bazaar and El-Gölü during the day. kabood mosque (blue mosque) is one of the master pieces of Islamic golden ages during Kara Koyunlu dynasty. blue mosque is built 1465 upon the order of Jahan Shah the ruler of Kara Koyunlu. Tabriz bazaar is also one the best bazaars of Iran and it is very unique in design and architecture. El-Gölü is the name of a large historic park containing an artificial lake in south east of Tabriz. El-Gölü artificial lake is a rectangular lake surrounded by four sidewalks and a stripe of flowers in its four sides. In the middle of the lake, a building representing the traditional architecture of Tabriz is located.

Day 8
Day 8 : Tabriz/Kandovan Village

We will continue discovering Tabriz for today. we are going to see Arg of Tabriz (old fortifications of the city), Iron age museum and Qajar dynasty museum before noon. After having our lunch, we will be visiting amazing Kandovan village outside of Tabriz. This village exemplifies manmade cliff dwellings which are still inhabited. The troglodyte homes, excavated inside volcanic rocks and tuffs similar to dwellings in the Turkish region of Cappadocia, are locally called “Karaan”.

Day 9
Day 9 : Dome of Sultanieh/Tehran

We’ll have our breakfast early in the morning and check-out from our hotel before 8:00. Today we are going back to Tehran but before that, we are going to see Dome of Soltaniyeh which is the oldest double shell dome in Iran and one the largest brick domes in the world. We’ll arriving to Tehran late night so you will be transferring directly to your hotel to rest.

Day 10
Day 10 : Tehran(city tour)

Early in the morning you will start your journey with UNESCO heritage site of Golestan Palace. History of this glamorous palace goes back to Shah Abbas (1588-1629) strongest ruler of Safavid dynasty. this complex is a mixture of Persian and European architecture especially French architecture. Golestan palace became the official royal palace when Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar (1742-1797) moved its capital to Tehran in 1796. Golestan Palace consists of currently 13 available sites, Marble Throne, Karim Khani Nook, Pond House, Brilliant Hall, Containers Hall, Ivory Hall, Mirror Hall, Salam Hall, Building of wind catchers, Edifice of the Sun, Museums of Gifts, Abyaz palace and Photographic Archive. After visiting the Palace, we will go to Tehran’s old bazaar which is the center of traditional businesses in Tehran. Old bazaar is just only few meters away from the Golestan palace so we can go to the Bazaar by walk. Every section of the bazaar is for one specific business, so during your tour you will visit different businesses and different sections of old bazaar. after visiting the old bazaar you’ll be transferring to south west of Tehran to have a short visit to Azadi Tower. Azadi Tower (old name: Shahyad Tower) opened in January 14th 1972. This monument is a master piece of Mr. Hossein Amanat (currently living in Canada) which ordered by the last king of Pahlavi Mohammad Reza Shah. After visiting Azadi tower you’ll be transferring to northern part of the city to Darband Neighborhood in foothills of Tochal mountain. This neighborhood is the scape boat of Tehranians to escape from crowdedness and chaotic life of this metropolis. we’ll have our last dinner together in a one of the beautiful restaurants of Darband Neighborhood.

Day 11
Day 11 : Tehran(departure)

Our representative will pick you up from your hotel and will arrange your transfer to Imam Khomeini Airport (IKA) for your international flight.
