Azerbaijan province(Iran)

History of Azerbaijan Province(Iran) goes back to the Medes Empire which they used to live on this part of Persia, and because of that, Azerbaijan among historian and archaeologists also called “little Medes”.  The name of Azerbaijan comes from the ancient words of “Azar Abadgan” or the land of fire. there are lots of Zoroastrian fire temples remained from the ancient times in this area, that’s why this province is called the land of fire.

Azerbaijan Province(Iran) is located in the northwest of Iran and is the only Iranian province bordering with Turkey. West Azerbaijan has a Mediterranean climate but the temperature drops significantly during the winter time. There are two major ethnicity living in Azerbaijan, Turkish and Kurdish ethnicity but Kurdish people generally are living on the south of this province which is bordering with Kurdistan province. There are also some other minorities living in this province as well, minorities like Assyrians and Armenians.

Music of Azerbaijan Province(Iran)

Music in Azerbaijan is rich and has a very deep roots in their culture. Azerbaijani music has been divided into four main sections: romantic music, ethnic music, religious music and music played at celebrations. Including to their music, during in almost every gathering and ceremony, they will perform famous “Lezgi Dance” with their music. Lezgi is a dynamic dance, some parts of this dance performs as a solo dance but some other parts of this dance performs in group. Performing Lezgi needs a huge physical readiness because this dance performed by constant jumping and kneeling. This dance sometimes performs only with a group of males but sometimes accompanied by a group of women which stunningly attracts the eyes of the spectator

Takht-e Soleyman & Soleyman prison

One of the most amazing historical sites of west Azerbaijan is ruins of Takht-e Soleyman, with almost 2800 years of history. This place was used to be a Zoroastrian Fire temple until the invasion of Iran by Arabs. Also in just a few kilometers away from Takht-e Soleyman ruins, there is an amazing natural crater which is called “The Soleyman Prison”. Based on the old   mythology, Solomon” The prophet” jailed all the demons and giants in there.

Bazaar of Tabriz

Like many other historical bazaars in Iran, Tabriz bazaar is also situated in the center of city of Tabriz right in the middle of the Tabriz old city. Tabriz bazaar has a very beautiful architecture with lots of niche markets in it. one of the most famous niche markets of Tabriz bazaar is its carpet niche market, in the middle of the old bazaar. Tabriz carpet is very famous because of its beautiful patterns and its expensive materials. Tabriz carpet is mostly made with silk which make the carpet extremely beautiful and the same time extremely expensive. Tabriz carpet niche market is a place for local carpet producers and carpet dealers.

Kandovan Village

A unique village in the west of Iran close to Tabriz. This ancient village is made completely within cliffs thousands of years a go by ancient civilizations and it is still habitat. The troglodyte homes, excavated inside volcanic rocks and tuffs similar to dwellings in the Turkish region of Cappadocia. This village is very close to city of Tabriz (1-hour drive) but the best time to visit this place could be between April and September. The other time of the year you find this village covered by snow!
